Updates
27/11/24 SHOP UPDATE
I've done another shop update and all the undyed yarns that I have in stock are now listed with new photos and information about needle sizes throughout. I'm currently dyeing yarn for an event at Glenkinchie Distillery on 7-8 December and will have all remaining dyed yarns photographed and up on the website in the following week. :)
We now have gift cards available in our shop and these would make a perfect Christmas gift for anyone you know who loves our wool!

13/9/24 Three Items of News!
Firstly, a quick SHOP UPDATE has taken place following the Scottish Yarn Festival. There's two item still to be photographed and added (DK Achness and DK Storm) but I'll do that soon. There's still no Dyed DK Harestanes as I sold everything I'd dyed at Perth! Now to dye some more for Yarndale in a couple of weeks.
Secondly, we have two yarn events left this year, and it would be great to see you at either of these. Yarndale is held in Skipton and is a huge event on 28-29 September. There are regular shuttle buses from the railway station to the venue. Tickets are available here. Glasgow School of Yarn is our last event this year, and it is held in the Trades Hall in Glasgow between 18 - 20 October. Again, tickets are available here.
And finally, we are already starting to apply for and promote events for 2025! We will be at Winton Wool Gathering on 8th March (in Pencaitland - just 5 miles from us) but have not been selected to vend at Tangled in Galashiels. We will be looking for a replacement yarn for our Harestanes DK, which was developed specifically for the event. :) Any ideas?

5/1/24 Two items of news:
SHOP UPDATE due 12th APRIL 7PM. We have some delicious new DK yarns for sale in Harestanes Grey (the new base for our dyed Harestanes range), Licht (a pale fawn) and MIRKEN ( a deeper grey - but lighter than Coorie). We also have a few test skeins of laceweight yarn, and our two worsted-spun 4-ply yarns in Glas Maol and Firth undyed shades. Dyeing up new shades is waaay behind, due to the horrid horrid weather we've been having.
Next show is The Woolly Good Gathering in Edinburgh at the end of this month.
PRICE RISES: I hate doing this, but the latest huge batches of spun yarn have come from the Mills at increased costs. I really hate to pass these on although I'm heartened by how many of you tell me that I don't charge enough - especially for hand-dyed yarn. As well as that, Royal Mail has just increased its prices. I'll update the postage costs on the website this week, but will delay the yarn price increases until 1 June (after the Tangled Festival).

31/1/24 SHOP RE-OPENED WITH LIMITED STOCK. We are awaiting a couple of things 1) more yarn to be washed and dried so it can go into shop stock (DK Moorit, DK Storm and a new worsted-spun grey DK. The undyed Firth grey 4ply which was for sale at shows last year but not online, is now in the shop and I'll add a photo soon. Most of the yarn dyed for shows last year has all sold, but I'll take photos of what there is and add it to the shop during February, Please email [email protected] if you've any specific enquiries.
2/1/24 SHOP TEMPORARILY CLOSED FOR MAINTENANCE - AKA Spring-clean and stock take. Please email [email protected] with any stock queries! Shop will re-open 1/2/24 latest.
17/4/23 It looks like my hand-dyeing mojo has returned after 4 years of being almost scared to reach for the dye pot! I’ve been playing about with some test dyes and will take ‘mini-cakes’ along to the Tangled Yarn Festival in Galashiels on 2 & 3 June,
The DK and 4 ply arrived from the spinning mills and are now available to buy in the web shop.

25/1/23 We have been busy sending last year's fleeces off to the spinning mill and just waiting now for some new DK and 4 ply yarns to come back in a few weeks time! We have been busy applying to vend at some of this year's yarn festivals, and we're delighted to have been selected for four so far. Details of our yarn events for 2023 can be found here. Doing a full stocktake and planning to do some small-batch hand dyeing in the weeks ahead of our first event in Perth.
8/11/22 What a busy and successful year it has been attending yarn events old and new. It's been great to see everyone in person and we've had some new yarns to sell this year, our Coorie DK, and our dyed laceweight. We are fairly low on stock in general now, so will definitely be getting some new 4 ply, and laceweight spun up over the winter. For now though, time to reflect, plan and rest. Oh, and knit ..... We have already booked some yarn festivals in for 2023, and will apply for a few more. However, we've thought hard about the physical and mental commitment involved in attending yarn festivals and have decided that we want to focus on doing a select few next year!
27/5/22 We have now updated our list of Yarn Festivals for 2022 on our website, under the section Come & Meet Us. We're really looking forward to getting back out on the road again after the last few years.
In other news, the shearer has booked his date with us, and we're looking forward to getting the 2022 clip processed!

15/5/22 A big thanks to all of you who are buying our lace-weight yarn to knit the Ceridwen Shawl featured in the recent edition of the Knitter magazine. We look forward to seeing some of the finished results!
14/9/21 We are recovering from Perth Festival of Yarn last weekend, where we sold a surprising amount of yarn and had good times chatting away to new and returning customers as well as to other vendors. These are strange times, but the event was well-managed and felt safe. Now to start skeining, washing and labelling more yarn ready for Yarndale in Skipton on 25th and 26th September. Hope to see you there!
19/8/21 Yarn Festivals are back!! We are so delighted and honoured to have been selected for two events in September. The first is Perth Festival of Yarn which actually runs from 11-19 September both in-person and on-line this year. There is an actual, real in-person yarn festival happening on 11 and 12 September in the Station Hotel Perth and tickets (which must be booked in advance) are available here. A couple of weekends after that, we will be in Skipton Auction Mart for Yarndale on 25 and 26 September. Tickets are available here. We really hope that we can see you at one of these events!!
1/3/21 We are shaking off the winter and looking forward to the year ahead. Getting fleeces ready for the spinning mill, and starting to think about skeining and labelling more of our year ready for any woolly events that might be happening this year. A new blog post will give you some idea of how the sheep (and their shepherds) have been coping during lockdown!
30/10/20 Last weekend was Kendal Virtual Wool Gathering and we were so happy to be included. It was probably our most successful event so far and generated enough sales to pay our website and domain hosting bills when they arrive in December. There were so many luscious products for sale at the event and I managed to keep my own purchasing under control. A bit. Thanks to everyone for all their orders and we created a huge queue at our local Post Office on Monday morning!
12/10/20 We are downsizing our flock a bit as recent health challenges (for me, not the sheep) mean we need to lighten our workload a bit. However, we cannot bring ourselves to sell them all! We're rethinking how we run the wool business and hope to extend our collaborations with local farmers and breeders to continue to bring Shetland and other breed yarns. This weekend we took 11 ewes to three new flocks in rural Aberdeenshire - a long weekend involving both stress and happiness as we got to deliver our sheep, meet their new owners (even if just socially distanced) and see our ewes' new homes. It's always nice to be involved in starting new flocks, and we offer as much after-sales advice and support as new buyers need! We still have breeding and retirement (paddock munching) ewes available for sale.
16/10/20 New shades arrive from the dye-mill: we're really excited to have collected cones of our long-awaited commercially dyed yarn. I remember dropping the yarn off at the mill - after much discussion, showing them samples of my most-popular hand-dyed shades and viewing samples cards of test dyes - only to hear the UK Prime Minister announcing the national lockdown as I drove home over the moors. It's so great to finally have these dyed cones back! They'll be up in the shop soon.
23/4/20 New films bring Lammermuir Wool to life: we were asked to submit some film clips to Wonderwool Wales for their advertising so had a solid bash at getting used to the software. Film 1 is up on the website home page and the other two will follow soon...
22/4/20: The 2019 Wool Clip has landed!
In what are challenging times, we're pleased to announce that we finally have yarn from our 2019 wool clip ready for sale in our online shop.
First into the shop are three natural (undyed) shades in DK: REE (a stormy dark grey); HAAR (a misty mid-grey) and MOORIT (a warm brown) These shades have been part of our collection in previous years, but this batch is worsted (rather than wool) spun, giving a definite twist and more of a silky handle.
We're so pleased with them, and have taken a first step in getting some of the Haar commercially dyed in four main colours which will be revealed later into the summer. In the meantime, we'll be hand-dyeing small batches as usual and posting them into the shop each time they're ready. When they're gone, they're gone.
